Will Losing Weight Get Rid Of The Actual Fat Cells?Burning body fat is one of the most misunderstood concepts. There is a clear distinction between the reduction in cellular (fat) size and the reduction in cellular numbers. It is simply not possible to trim down the number of fat cells through special diets, intermittent fasting, aerobic exercises, or intense weight training. However, it is possible to alter cellular size. The human body comprises billions of fat cells which enlarge as they shore up surplus fat.
Fat cells are characteristically elastic wherein each cell has the ability to stretch up to 1000 times its original dimensions. But it does not mean that we can get rid of them. During weight loss, excess fat deposits are burned through special diets, intermittent fasting, aerobic exercises, or intense weight training and thus the fat cells shrink proportionately in size (not in cellular numbers). It is technically possible though, to get rid of fat cells and that is by having them surgically removed. This surgery is called liposuction. Simply put, once you gain fat cells, you cannot get rid of them – you may only shrink them.
