What’s A Way To Measure My Fat?

You know that you’re fat if you have a high Body Mass Index. This is NOT the only guide you should use because some people are not fat but think they are because of a distorted self image or because of what people say about them.

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is an objective way to evaluate your physical condition. It does this by comparing how tall you are with how much you weigh. The BMI also takes into account your age. You can find BMI charts online or even use BMI calculators that are made available from the Health Department or from insurance company Web sites. The BMI will help you determine whether you are obese, overweight, underweight or appropriate with how much you weigh. Keep in mind that being underweight can be even more dangerous to your health than weighing too much.

I don’t think you should let a chart boss you around though: you should want to be healthy to have a good, happy life. Use this as a very very general guideline. More important ways to measure fat loss is by measuring your body fat with calipers, or by using a measuring tape to measure your waist. If you put these together, you’ll have a good idea of your starting point, and the rest of your progress.
