Is There Something Wrong With My Scale? I Gained 10lbs This Weekend…Yikes!!

I want you to know that it would be very difficult for you to gain ten pounds in just two days. To illustrate the problem here, let me give you an example I calculated. Assuming that a pound of blubber equals about 3,500 calories, three pounds would be over 10,000 calories just to gain three pounds of fat. You would have to eat nineteen Big Mac sandwiches from McDonalds in order to get that many calories! Even if you had a 3-day weekend, that’s still a lot to eat. On top of that you’d still have to eat ten additional sandwiches to cover your daily caloric usage of 1,700 calories or so. See? It’s just not practical to have gained ten pounds that quickly.

What happens sometimes is that a person is traveling and retains a lot of fluids. Also, people tend not to eat very healthy while on the road (that’s another topic too), so that’s where phenomenal weight gains usually originate.
