Studies have shown that weight loss efforts that target specific areas aren’t very effective at all. The best approach is to exercise your whole body to build muscle and then do exercises on the stationary bike that alternate between very intense bursts and slower recovery periods. This type of program is called interval training. What you do is you work hard for a minute or two and then slow down, not stop, for a minute or two. As you alternate between the two states, your body starts to burn fat.
As far as strengthening exercises, a good place to start is with the squat. Since your thigh muscles are the largest in your body, you can burn more calories quickly if you build them up. Then work on your upper body doing push ups and chin-ups. By getting your body to burn more fat and by eating healthier food, you will be surprised at how fast your belly flattens out.
